Language and international students’ negotiation of identities in a multilingual university in Hong Kong

This talk will report on some findings of an ongoing research project funded by Hong Kong Research Grants Council on mainland Chinese and international university students’ language experiences in the context of internationalisation of higher education. It will focus on examining the role of language in shaping international students’ identity negotiation in a multilingual university setting in Hong Kong.
Matthew Sung is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at City University of Hong Kong. He holds a PhD in Linguistics from Lancaster University, UK. His main research interests are applied sociolinguistics, language and identity, global Englishes, second language studies, multilingualism, and international education.
