Ms Anna Fu (1): Effective Communication with Clients and Animals in Veterinary Medicine
An interview with a Veterinary Nurse, featuring her views on what makes effective communication in veterinary medicine
· Although the target patient in veterinary medicine and medicine for human is different, the communication is mainly with human beings
· Give clients the correct expectations of the treatments, e.g. diagnosis, number of tests and medicine
· Communicate with animals through verbal and non-verbal communication, e.g. petting and stroking them
· Effective communication is achieved when the correct message is delivered to the listener
· Ask questions like “Do you understand” or “Do you know what I mean” to make sure clients and colleagues understand the message
