The PhD degree in English consists of both coursework and independent research studies culminating in the submission of a thesis.
Coursework requirements
Research Degree students are required to fulfil a number of coursework requirements within their study period, amounting to 15 credit units for PhD students, as well as a compulsory course on teaching and learning (1 credit unit). Thesis
PhD candidates are expected to submit an effectively organized and well-documented thesis on their research topic at the end of their study period for evaluation by a panel of expert internal and external examiners. A PhD thesis should identify issues that are important to the understanding of the chosen area of study, review the relevant theories and previous research and complete a rigorously-designed study that makes an original contribution to knowledge in the chosen field of research.
