Dickens & adaptation 14 Apr 2023

Dickens and Adaptation symposium brings literary scholars, theatre practitioners and adapters together to discuss different critical and creative engagements with Dickens’s novels and dramatic works from the nineteenth century to the present day. It approaches adaptation through various theoretical lenses or praxes: as a critical interpretation of the literary texts, a form of readerly attitude, a creative re-envisioning of the original texts, and as transnational responses to the texts. Coinciding with the performance of one of his best-known novels, Great Expectations, in Hong Kong, this symposium also provides an opportunity for the audience to learn about the creative processes involved in adapting and translating the work for theatre in the city.
